Hi. I don't know if this is in the right spot or not, but I'll ask anyways. I have 2 young budgies. A male and a female. They are from different parents but raised by the same female. Lee and Noodle are identical, we can barely tell them apart. They are pretty much exactly the same age, one may be a day or two older. They're about 5 months old. The male seems to be molting and the female isn't. Do male budgie molt for the first time before females? Thanks! :)

Oh, I knew what molting was, I just didn't know if one sex molted sooner than the other. I'll post pics, I have to upload them on Photobucket first though. :)

Budgies hit sexual maturity around 6-9 months, so it just sounds like the male is just responding to the surge of Spring hormones better than the female. I don't think one sex moults quicklier than the other, however, because of all the enviornmental factors. Please post pictures! :)

i didnt meant to sound like you didnt knew just to compare that some dogs shed before others also beacuse of light conditions and such, like Giselle said, and not caused by either sex........

:D They look almost EXACTLY alike. They have different parents though. :) They're sweeties, just not very tame yet. We have 18 birds, I'll eventually post all of their pictures, lol. :D It seems that I've made them too small..lol

Aww, I'm so sorry. SHe does look like Lee and Noodle, very pretty! She was a big girl!! I lost one of my feathered friends a week ago. He's much better off now. He had seizures. Harry and Lime are flying free together now. :D We'll see our little buddies again one day though. It's not goodbye, it's I'll see you later. :)

Yeah, I just didn't know if males molted before females. Thanks.
