This morning at 2:15 AM EDT I closed Pet Talk to backup our 1.4 million posts. I also restarted for the first time in over 100 days. To my horror the server did not restart after a few minutes. It took almost an hour before it came back online. Right now I am not sure why it took so long. I am very grateful we are back online.

That's a lot of posts to back up. I was asleep when you did it, so I didn't notice.

The server had quite a lot to chew on, so I'm not surprized it took more than two minutes - but an hour!! So glad we're back online! :D

I didn't notice whether you did a "spring cleaning" again - I'm referring to cero posters.

Search doesn't work as well as in the "old days", does anyone else have problems with this?

Backing up the 1.4 million messages only takes fifteen to twenty minutes. During this time Pet Talk is closed. Technically the server (PetoftheDay.com, etc.) is online the whole time, however, it's slow.

Early this morning the entire server was offline for an hour. I now know this is because one of the fans in the server has failed preventing the server from rebooting normally. The company which hosts our server is going to replace the fan. I have asked them to schedule this for 11:00 PM EDT. I will make an announcement when I know more.

1. Paul was never on painkillers.

2. Paul does sleep sometimes. Like Miss Hoppy, he knows the value of a well-timed nap.

3. Paul could not sleep if the server was down and there was something, anything - he could do about it.

That's quite all right. Before we got the diagnosis, he tried both aspirin and naproxin (Alleve) and neither did any good, and the doc didn't ask or prescribe any painkillers either.

And you're welcome, though Paul does all the hard stuff, I'm just the chatty one!

And are we ever glad about that! Thanks Karen and Paul - I have missed all of these events as I haven't had much Pet Talk time............but it is comforting to know that our addiction was only down a short time.
