I was just wondering what everyone is planning to study or did study in college. I'm going to study culinary - probably baking but maybe vegetarian cooking. It's so funny, I've grown up all of my life thinking I would go to college to do something with animals, and what happens? I end up like everyone else in my family  Baking runs in my family, my dad's side had a bakery back in the '60s.

I've always loved baking and cooking though so I'm pretty excited to go. The college is a private college right up the street from my house and I went up there last week to peek in the windows and they have the coolest baking equipment :D I'm going to go for a tour soon.

The first time I went to college I got a degree in broadcasting. That didn't work out quite like I had it planned so I went back to school. Got a Bachelor of Social Work. Currently working on a post-degree certificate in gerontology.

Switched my major to Computer Technology and found it so much easier

I graduated last year with a bachelors in psychology. However, I need to go back to school to do anything with it! :o I want to go to a Phd program in cognitive/experimental psychology but if that doesn't work out I will probably just get a masters in teaching.

Collage is a long way away for me. However, I think I'm going to do something medical related. I'm already in a vet science course that will help me get a scholarship to collage, but I think I'll end up being a surgen.(sorry if I misspelled it!) It would be like dissecting(spelling?) people!

I started college majoring in Chemical engineering. After two years, and a co-op job in that field, I decided that wasn't what I wanted to do. Instead, I graduated with a BS in Biochemistry. I worked in R&D for 5 years after I graduated, before moving to an analyticallab, where I was reviewing work done by chemists to be sure it met regulatory requirements. I am now working in a technical sales position, where I advise our clients what chemistry work they need to do to get clearance from the FDA or other notified bodeis for their medical devices (to prove they are safe).

I graduated with a B.A. in Criminal Justice, and I am working in a related field now. Way back when I went to school they didn't have such a profession as a Paralegal, but if they did that is what I would have done. :)

I graduated with my BS in 2003 majoring in Veterinary Sciences. I thought I wanted to go to vet school but decided to get my Master's first. I finished that last August and am now working on my PhD. I do research on tick-borne illnesses and could not imagine doing anything else.

I'm not sure what I'm going to take yet, probably just a couple grooming and dog training courses/programs though. I don't think those are even offered in colleges, but I'm not sure, I haven't really looked into anything as of yet. I used to want to be a vet, up until this past year or so...now it just doesn't interest me at all simply because I don't think I could handle surgeries well and I want a job that only involves dogs.

I'm majoring in Education next fall at Transylvania. I'll spend 4 years there, get my BA, and then go to Seminary. I aspire to be a youth minister, but I'm majoring in Education because teaching would be my next choice - in case my role as a youth minister doesn't pay the bills, I can also teach during the day. :)

I went to nursing school, made it through all the coursework with flying colors, got to my first clinical and almost threw up on my patient! :o I learned the hard way that I don't have the stomach to be a nurse, but I love trauma. My next move? What else, a paramedic, right? Trauma, sure! The first week, we were learning to intibate people. I found out that people throw up on you a lot, I checked out the next day. I then went to beauty school as I love to do hair and nails. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the whole beauty school sweat shop, but it's basically cheap labor. The students don't get paid. Your tips are your income. I had a lady come in, wanted a full set of nails, pedicure, hair cut, color and perm. I worked on her ALL DAY! She was my only client for the day. She tipped me $.50!

My next move is to go to culinary school to become a pastry chef. I've always loved to back. I want to open my own bakery some day. It'll be doggie friendly, too! ;)

I am going to school for Veterinary Medicine in the fall. I will be attending either LSUS/LSUBR or Texas A&M University. I would love to specialize in something but EVERYTHING interests me so I probably won't. If I HAD to pick one I would probably choose something involving the spine or diseases.

I had was an english major, with a focus of book publishing. I finished that major, and decided that I would never, ever do anything with it. Basically, you sit at a desk all day, pushing a pencil and correcting grammar and spelling errors. While it might be for some people, it just isn't for me.

Then, I took a couple of courses in Phlebotomy (drawing blood), took an internship and loved it. I got a job working at a local hospital and hated it. I was put on the emergency room with basically no special training (that is *very* different than a lab setting) and quit 3 weeks later.

Now, I have a job managing a small copy shop -- I do use some training I got from my publishing major, but for the most part not. I love, love, love my job, and can definitely see myself doing this 5, 10, 25, 50 years down the road. It's very diverse -- everyday is different. It's creative, and rarely is it boring.

I still have a good amount of time to college but I have already prepared for it. I am going to go to Texas A & M in College Station, near Houston. It is the only vet school in Texas so that is where I will be going. I don't know if I want to be a specialist in one particular thing (ie: specialty in farm animals, reptiles etc). Still got a lot of planning to do.

I truley have no clue what I want to be. Definatley something with animals. Possibly, a dog trainer. Possibly Graphic Design. I really want to be a Zoologist though. I would love to work with wild Big cats and wild little cats. It would be awesome to work with any wild animal. I'd love to be in the woods hiking. Also, possibly a Author as I love writing. But my heart is set on being a zoologist.

I ultimately will probably end up going to Davis, but Cornell is where my heart lies :p Of course, the tuition is through the roof and I'm doubtful I can make it in, so chances are I'll go to Davis. Plus, I can drive home every weekend to see my pups!

I have 2 more years to make up my mind, but hopefully zoology. I have wanted to be a zookeeper (big cats) for many years. I understand:
-it's a very competitive job
-the salary is not great
-you have to intern for at least 2 years before you can even think about getting a real job

My backups are something in the field museum, eventually curator. I mom had the best job when I was young, she researched a culture, then wrote the displays at the Field Museum. It combines my two favorite subjects; history and english, and for once, not much math!<< I hate math!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever I do I will be making adds for dogs and taking pictures on the side.

Congrats Pat!!

For the most part, it is interesting, and I enjoy it. I get to see and hear about alot of the new devices that will be coming out before they are released. Although I can't say a lot about most of it, one of the new projects we are bidding on testing is the packaging for a canine pain med. The manufacturer is really going above and beyond the FDA requirements for a vet med, which of course makes me happy!! Their feeling is that package for animals medicines should be just as safe as it is for humans ( European agencies require this, US does not). Anyway, it is easy to get off on a tangent because it is interesting!!

I got my BS in Chemistry and a PhD in Polymer Chemistry. After doing polymer science for about 16 years I switched to analytical in the pharma industry. I mainly "babysit" reactions (in-process testing is what THEY like to call it, but it's really babysitting... :p ) It's quite a change, but I love all kinds of analytical tests and instrumentation.

I am one of those people that could never quite decide "what I want to be when I grow up", so I have been to university on three different occasions. I have a Bachelor of Pharmacy (yes I used to practice but not any more), a business degree (MBA), and I finally broke down and got myself a PhD looking at health outcomes (a fancy way of talking about health policy and how effective medical treatment is). But I finally found something that I enjoy doing (and the hours are a lot better than being a pharmacist ;) )
