Over spring break a couple of weeks ago I went to Virginia with my family. We took a day trip to DC, although I wish we could have stayed longer.
Before we left, my cutie:

First we went to Endless Caverns. This was the beautiful entry way to the caverns. Just to the left of this photo we went into a room.

this place was beautiful, enchanted kind of. This pic was to the right of the pic above

this lead to the bridge thing in the other pic

more carvern pics…
it was actually quite plesent down there, a cool and constant 55 F and a bit dark

if it hits you on the head it’s called a “cave kiss.” My mom thought the guide said “cave piss”

And then the next day we went to a water park/arcade and trail rides.

My cousin who had never ridden before got the 5 year old paint who needed a crop

Then we went to the first battlefield at Manassas.
http://longfellow.zoto.com/img/45/780afbb5363032cdadb69c1cc743305f-.jpg
It was the first battle of the Civil War. People thought this would be the only battle and that the war would be over soon, so they picnicked on the edge of the field for the day’s outing!

http://longfellow.zoto.com/img/45/41f0bd65313fc4d2cfa8fea21027fc1f-.jpg

they had markers and descriptions of what happened when and where as you walked the trail.

Thanks Sarah!
Buttercup, yeah, if I fail as a zookeeper or get fed up with the scedule required for it being a mounted policewoman is my backup plan! I was watching the training for it on Whoa Sundays on Animal Planet and basically the horses have to be able to walk past fireworks and such!

Great photos! :D
I love the photos of the horses the best, they are all so beautiful.
Where in DC did you see the mounted police?
What other sights did you see while you were in DC?
I'm going to be there for a few days next week so I'm glad you posted some photos of the area. :)

VTcat, That was right next to the Vietnam memorial wall. Be sure to see all the monuments, especially WWI and WWII. Bring a lot of film if you have a film camera. WWI thing is pretty hidden, but cool. The castle building is the history of the Smithsonian, and when it all fit in there the original building. I had no time to go in it but we took a tour that explained stuff and showed us the things we didn't have time to fully see. I really recoment a tour if you only have a short time and/or want to come back because it gives you a good idea of what to see next time.

Suki, we will be in DC for several days so we hope to see as many museums and memorials as possible. My daughter and I love horses too so we will be sure to take photos of any horses we see. We are bringing both our digital and film cameras so we plan to take lots of photos. I have a thread in the Meetings section if you want to take a look at some of the things we plan to do.
I will be sure to post some photos on Pet Talk after we come back from our trip. :)

Also just wondering, did you drive in the city? Where did you travel from and how was the traffic? I have heard that it is really bad there. We plan to drive as little as possible and mostly walk and use the Metro when we are there.

I have only been for day trips, but I drove in from Penn. once and Manassas area VA this time, traffic was moderate. Comming from Pennsylvania we parked in Maryland and took the Metro in. The metro is very fast and comfortable.
