I am trying to come up with a name for the kitten I rescued but I want something unique and one with a meaninful meaning behind it.

I was thinking something along the lines of a word in a different language, one that means something similar to thirve, or rescued, or strong, etc.....

I am getting so sick of searching the name sites, going into each language then scrolling through the meanings.

You would think there would be a dictionary site where you can type in the word & the same word from many different languages would come up. (yes I'm asking for a lot here) lol

If you go to http://babelfish.altavista.com/ you can type in a word in any language and choose what language you want to translated into.

"Kitten" in Dutch is "Katje" , in French it is "Chaton" , in Spanish it is "Gatito" :)

This is what you are looking for!

There are many native american languages. You might have to search for a specific language, not "native American".

Isn't a kitten called a Chaton? I've heard my grandmother use it, or atleast thats what it sounded like.

I wont even repeat what my grandpa calles them (its nothing mean, just not gonna type it on here)

Oh I know that but thanks! :D I just put that so I didn't have to list a bunch of langues, just an example.

Kitten is 'chaton' yup, but cat is just 'chat'.

But the most important thing to remember is it isn't pronounced like its spelled. "Chat" is pronounced "shaa". Well the CORRECT way to say "cat" is "le chat".

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful suggestions! With all of our hard work combined we came up with a name for the cutie, and a name that needed no research. lol
Since day one I was calling the kitten George & Frank (and a million and 3 other names). My friend who will be taking the kitten IF I decide not to keep it also likes the name George, so that is his name, George. LOL He really does like the name though.

Kay, I love the name Mosi, I'll have to keep that in mind for the next rescue/foster. ;)

I know, I was born & raised french for the first 3yrs of my life. My whole family is french. I can read french pretty well (most of the time hehe) :)
