I let the pups out into the yard yesterday morning and Bear came back in coughing (sounded like he had something in his throat). It went on for about a minute before he stopped so I assumed he'd gotten it out. Then I came home last night and he did the same thing a couple of times, but when I asked my roomate he hadn't done it all day. This morning he started again and I got a call from my roomate telling me he seemed to be getting worse. I gave him some cough medicine tonight and I'm going to try to get him to the vet tomorrow (they were booked tonight and tomorrow so I have to go as a walk in). He's sleeping now so hopefully the cough medicine helped, but some good thoughts would be welcome.

Sounds like Bear is having an allergic reaction to something he got into! Good luck with the vet, and lots of hugs and good thoughts to Bear

P.S. Trayi52, what kind of creature is Mario????

Thanks everyone. He's sleeping now which is better than he has been.

He had a fairly bad night so I took him in this morning. After 3 hours at the vet this morning (I hate having to do walk-in) the vet gave me some antiobiotic and a stronger cough medicine. If he's not showing improvement in the next 5 days he has to go back for x-rays to get an idea of what's going on. He hasn't really been around other dogs and my other 3 aren't sick which is why she thinks it's a little strange for kennel cough. She did do some blood work since last time his thyroid was borderline and one of his enyzmes was high, which we'll get back probably Monday or Tuesday.

What kind of cough medicine did you give him?

Its robotusium (sp??) DM the children formula. My vet had recommended it for one of my other dogs at one point so I figured it couldn't hurt to try on Bear.
