I REALLY want to get a betta and have been searching for an appropriate tank for a betta. I saw this and liked it. I was wondering if it is the right size and if the filter is okay for a betta. Here (http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444180 7849&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302030099&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1145064936508&itemNo=3&In=Fish&N=2030099&Ne=2) is the tank. Thanks:)

ps: I'll be getting my betta from Petsmart because the last time I went, I saw this beautiful betta and really wanted to buy/rescue it.

It looks like a nice size, but I hear that filters bother bettas. :\ I'm not sure how strong that filter is, so I don't know if that one would actually bother one.

Ideally you want a 2.5 or more gallon tank, but they will do fine in a tank like that.

Sometimes water disturbance can stress them out, so a filter can do more harm than good. BUT some do good with one, some don't.

I also saw these (http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444177 9403&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302030099&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1145065601651&itemNo=11&In=Fish&N=2030099&Ne=2) but they also have a filter. But I'm sure they will have a wider selection than what they have featured on the website. I also wanted to add that I have $40 to spend so anything around $35 or under is what I can afford.

Well actually they usually have a bigger selection online than they do in-store. At least that's how it was when I worked at PetCo

I actually really like that tank minus the filter, I almost bought it. It's really cute and I think it comes in 2.5 gallon sizes.

I'd go with the minibow, it's a great aquarium. Just because it comes with a filter doesn't mean that you have to use it. Just don't put the filter in when your setting it up and it will be an excellent tank for a betta.

Thats the tank I have for my Betta and he seems to really enjoy it. That filter did bother him and I took it out (you can see my recently posted thread about it).

The tank is roomy for a Betta and Moon seems to really enjoy it.

Yep, for $7 more I'd go for the 2.5 Minibow! I have 3 and all of the Bettas in them love em muchly. ^^

For the Whisper filters, you can fashion a "current killer" to it by simply cutting off the flat middle portion of a plastic soda bottle. Just fix the plastic around the lip of the filter, where the water pours out, and it'll almost completely kill the current.

Thank you for all your help:) Another question: Since bettas prefer soft/live plants to artifical plants, can I cut some of the real plants that are in my 60 gallon aquarium?

Real plants will be nice, no worries about tearing fins. Thats a good tank for a betta, but horrible that its listed as a goldfish starter kit. We should have laws against advertising small tanks for goldfish, its advertising animal cruelty. You'll probably just take the filter out- (and then you'll have to buy a bigger tank for tropicals to use the filter in ;) ).
