Hmmm,
It's time for that crazy sport where...

It's OK to hit some pitcher
Steal some bases.
Spit.
Scratch.
take a hit away from a batter.
Strike out.
Getting your clean uni dirty,
Breaking up a double play.

All the stuff you weren't supposed to do off the field.

Go Dodgers..I still don't like the new owner, but he has brought some talent to the team.

Boo, Bonds and Piazza.
Two jerks that will never have the world championship feeling and most of all

Go Cubbies.

They are my project this year. ;)

Poor Paul, we were out for a late dinner and the game was on, behind his head on a big-screen TV. So I kept updating him on the progress, not that he cares even a smidgen about baseball, and then had to explain as the place errupted with that game-ending Dave Ortiz classic. Go, Big Papi! And I even loved him explaining to the eager reporter that he was just doing his job, in a pretty low-key but polite and happy way.

Former Major Leaguer Charged With Skipping Child Support
Holton Arrested At Manchester Discount Store

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- A former Major League baseball pitcher has been arrested on charges he skipped out on thousands of dollars of child support.

Former Baltimore Oriole and Los Angeles Dodger Brian Holton is being held in Manchester on charges from Wisconsin that he owes nearly $43,000 in child support.

Baseball-almanac.com says Holton, 46, earned $347,000 in his final year as a relief pitcher for the Orioles in 1990. He pitched for the Dodgers for four years in the 1980s and two years for the Orioles.

Holton lives in Manchester. He was arrested at his job at a discount store on Wednesday after police in Maquon, Wis., called Manchester police with word Holton was wanted.

Court records show Holton reported $12,166 income in 2004 and $17,517 in 2003.

When people go from six figure salaries to being without income it's not uncommon for them to fall on hard times, as their life as a pro athlete is all about now, not later.

JR Richards, who threw over 100 MPH on a routine basis for the Houston Astros was found living under a bridge in Houston a few years ago.

Most sports don't have much of a pension plan for their players, and the average Pro career is very short. Until recently, the leagues did not offer much in the way of financial advice for new players, so they were kids with bunches of money, and spent accordingly. This left them with little to nothing fo rtheir future.

JR Richards, who threw over 100 MPH on a routine basis for the Houston Astros was found living under a bridge in Houston a few years ago.

Richards, A 6 foot 6 pitcher had a stroke, early in his career.

He was a monster and was pretty intimidating on the mound. He never pitched in the majors again-it's really sad to hear about him ending up living like that.

(I got into a fight with an Astros fan at a game about Richards and his stroke.
This loudmouthed punk was ragging me about the fact that the Dodgers would win the West because he was on the Disabled List.....I told him that if we won the division because of an injury/illness it wasn't worth it.....)

Karen,
That reminds me of a great story.

There was a bar that would give out free drinks after every homerun by the home team.....During one very important game the bar was packed.

One of the hometeam players jerks a tater into the stands.

THE CROWD WENT WILD!!!!!

The bartender, pouring for the house, gets halfway through before ANOTHER ball goes to the stands......

He finishes his job and starts to pour the second round...

He finished pouring THAT ROUND and when he gets back to the game he notices that the score is one run short.....

He finally realizes that he poured the second round of drinks on a REPLAY OF THE HOMERUN!!! :o

The Boston Globe
August 21, 2006

Roxbury MA (AP) - A seven-year-old boy was at the center of a Boston

courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who

should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his

Parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in

keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity

be maintained to the degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him

more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When

the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy

cried out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning

that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the

judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should

have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and

confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody

to the Boston Red Sox, whom the boy firmly believes is not capable of

beating anyone.

When I first moved to Chicago, my husband (then boyfriend) said, "ok...you have to pick one, Cubs or Sox." I asked which one he liked. He said, "I root for Chicago, but when they play each other, I go for the Cubs." I said, "Ok, if you can like both, then I will to." I was pretty neutral for a year or two.
