boss now decides he wants to take us all to a race night.........ordinarily I wouldn't mind not going but its an ABBA race night, with a tribute band and everything

The race will be on the flat and I wouldn't place any bets but I don't know what to do..........help!

I would try to get out of this. Why not tell him the truth, and say you hate races?

Oh geez, I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to go either. Any way you can get out of it? It would be hard to do, but I guess if worse comes to worse you can go but not support them by placing any bets. That's a tough call...

Is there a risk to your job if you don't go? If not I would not go. Since you say you feel strongly enough to never go to the races, having a cover band wouldn't/shouldn't make a difference.

"I am sorry, but, I have another pressing engagement that day, and I cannot attend".

What is wrong with just a simple statement to that effect?

That sounds like the best solution:)

I would be honest. "My personal feelings toward horse racing won't make me very good company at these races." I had that happen to me a while back too. Our boss wanted to have a company picnic at a race track. I told them not to expect me if that was the venue.

I would just tell him the honest truth! Or that you have a previous engagement ;) But I would rather tell the truth than lie though you know?

Given my recent admission in the dog house I won't be allowing myself to go anywhere near venues like this for a very, very long time............

They already know how I feel about horse racing so with my added incentive not to go I am sure they will be very understanding and supportive
