I've started working at a shelter and there is a kitty here that is labeled "doesn't have wrists" She's super beautiful and gets along just fine. Does anyone know about the twisty legged kitties I've vaguely read about? Can anyone give me info that I can pass on to a perspective meowmie? As I said she gets along fine and has no issues but any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here's a link to the "Twisty Kat". This is NOT a purebred Munchkin, so please DO NOT get them confused.

THIS IS A TWISTY KAT

The "Twisty Kat" is a deformaty NOT genetic mutation. There's a BIG difference.

"Twisty Kats" are nothing more than to in-breeding of cats with severe deformaties together. They've been trying to ban it for years, and rightfully so.

This is MY Munchkin. And yes, Shortie CAN and DOES jump! I call her my "little flying monkey" because she used to jump 6 feet from the kitty tree to my bed, when I lived in Michigan. That's my girl!! :D

I've never heard of a cat without wrists  . Do you mean she has no legs at all? Or just very short legs??

Is it possible to post a picture of her?

I have a cat with 3 legs, the 4th one is underdevelloped, caused by a per-birth-defect. Snoopy (her name) is running around like a normal cat, and climbs as high as she wants! Of course, it will always be a special needs cat; but I am most willing to give this to her!!

As long as she is able to get around, having no wrists is no big deal. Kitties do not see themselves as handicapped or different. Queenscoopalot has a kitty (or several) with the twisted legs.

As my siggy says "Handicapped kitties ♥just leave bigger imprints on your heart". I have a handicapped girl and I can tell you, the reason these kitties are born is to teach us things about unconditional love and determination!

Oh god that little twisty is HEARTBREAKING! I'd adopt every last one of them just to get them neutered and spayed!

Moosmom - any links to places that are trying to shut this down(and keep the cats from being dumped or worse???)

Catty1,

Go into Yahoo.com and do a search for Twisty Kats. There are TONS of websites. Just look for awareness sites. I'm sure they'll have petitions and stuff you can sign and people you can write to.

I Hope That That Little Kitten Is All Right, and The Lack Of Wrists Does Not Hurt Her.
And That She Can Find A Nice Furr Ever Home Where She Will Be Loved.

Thanks everyone for the input. This kitty isn't a munchkin. I know about short legs. Her front paws are at a 90 degree angle. She was owner surrendered but they didn't mention her background. She gets around just fine and is so very sweet. I'm sure she'll be adopted but I was hoping to give perspective owners info to assure them she'll be okay. She definately doesn't consider herself handicapped and freely gives purrs and cuddles. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow. :)
Thanks again everyone!

Laura - I gather from what moosmom says that these twisty cats are DELIBERATELY bred to be that way.

I am all for adopting and loving nature's detours - but to actively breed it, when it might cause more suffering for the cats? That's what I dislike!
