I swear... everytime I go to the petstore... I find another pet I want! The last couple times I wanted an aquarium, a rabbit, and a lizard. I no longer want those anymore... because they just don't appeal to me anymore for some reaons, even though they are still cute! But I just got back from the petstore and when I was there I was just looking through the birds just for fun... and I saw this african grey congo. He was so cute, and very smart. He wasn't boring to watch, and he would make little faces at you and make little noises! I loved him! Now I want a bird... lol. Just to make sure they are right for me... I was wondering if you bird people think they are friendly. And what kind do you have? Does you bird talk a lot? Are they easy to take care of? Are they expensive to care for and buy? I wanted a larger or medium bird, like the one I saw at the store. Thanks everybody!!!

they are expensive to care for and buy and caring for them is almost like having a small child  I wouldn't recommend them for you. I would say wait a long while (at least) a few months to make that kind of a commintment to make SURE you really still want one. If you are ready for one and still want one 6 months or more from now, I'd say go for a Cocketiel or a budgie at first, and make SURE to do lots of research. I'm not a bird expert and I've never had one myself but I've known people with large parrots like african greys and macaws and I've done a lot of research because they interest me. Many people on PT have Tiels and Budgies so they can help you in that aspect.

oh ok, your first post seemed like you never have had one before. I think some good medium sized birds are amazons and conures.

If after a while, you don't find a pet appealing any more, please do not get a bird. Birds are a huge commitment, and an African Grey Congo can live to be 50-70 years old. Conures can live to be around 30. Cockatiels live to be about 25. If you lose interest in a pet that quickly, what will happen to that bird the next year? 10 years from now? 20 years from now? Will you have lost interest? Please, please talk to bird owners, look online for care, make sure you REALLY want a bird. Do you have any friends with birds? Spring break is coming up soon, maybe you could find someone to birdsit for and make sure this is really for you. If not, google has loads of stuff on birds. :)

Ya if your saying that you wanted ALL these pets and now dont want them anymore then why get a bird? It's just going to be played with for like 4 days then left in its cage and probly later gotten rid of.....if you know your going to get bored then just go to the pet stores and look at them and get bored there dont bring one home to get bored with.. Why not go back to the petstore every week at least once and play with the birds and if you STILL want one after aa couple months then get one..just to make sure wont get bored with it..but I still think it's a bad idea for you if you loose intrest that fast.

I know that they are a big commitment, thats why I am going to wait a while to even consider getting one.

And I only lost interest in those because my dad didn't want any of them... that's the real reason. He said an aquarium is to much care, lizards are out of the question he said, and he said rabbits stink. And I understand that birds are A LOT of care probably more then aquarium, so please don't think that I think its going to be like caring for a betta or something.

Oh no, no, no!! probably??? Talk about 54786785454657 times MORE care! An African would be just like adding another human into your family....they need as much attention/care as any two year old would need!

I know i have heard, i read a lot about them on the internet, I heard they are like kids, and they show when they are mad sad depressed happy just like a kid.
And you guys please don't change this into *I don't even know why you are considering this if your just going to get over him in a few days* kinda thing, i just wanted to learn more things about them, I am not the kind of person to just buy something just cause I liked it for a few days, I waited years until I was ready for a dog. Thanks again for the people who answerd my questions! :)
