Was going to post this in the Meetings thread but thought more people would see them here. The day before the party I visited the zoo with Sara and Gini.

Forgive me but I can't remember any of the panda's names. This is Momma. She was sleeping in the funniest position. That's a tree branch in her armpit.

That's it. I took lots of other pictures of big cats but it was through wire fences and they didn't turn out very well.

I've heard about the San Diego Zoo all of my life. It's undoubtedly one of the most highly acclaimed zoos in the country. I can see why. It's absolutely beautiful. Those pictures are fantastic. I bet you ladies had a wonderful time too :)

Slick I finally managed to find the panda pics I told you about. The video I have actually shows her moving around playing but I have no way to get it onto the computer so hopefully these will do...

These are pics taken a few years ago now of the San Diego zoo's first panda, I managed to get lucky and get in I think about a month before the general public so I got some really good pics. The last 2 were taken by a friend during her trip to China..

Awww, what great pictures, you got some really good shots!! :) The pandas are so cute - isn't it amazing they can sleep like that!

Pnance, I'd like to hear the story behind that "kitty" picture. (I can only load the top half)

Thanks for sharing.

Awsome! Even though pandas have never been my favorite, they're still cute. I'd like to see the big cat pics anyway. (I want to be a carnivore keeper "when I grow up") The other week my mom was on a business trip in San Diego and she got an afternoon free and so she called me from the zoo and explained all the exhibits to me :p

I think San Diego has one of the best zoos not only in your country but worldwide! I hope I will go there again.

They have a karakal who comes from central Asia and looks like Filou's big brother ;)

Slick, your pictures are terrific. It WAS a great day wasn't it? Just not enough time. But it really made my socks roll up and down to see the pandas.
I have had a love affair with them for a long time. I am always looking at the Panda Cam - and have watched all three cubs thrive.

The San Diego Zoo really is one of the finest in the world - each exhibit is so well tended and the animals look content.

The "kitty" is one of the zoo enrichment animals who does shows, his buddy is a golden retriever. I just happened to catch him licking the trainers hand. I'm not sure if it was in greeting or checking for lunch.. ;)

I finally got to go to the SD zoo! I was there this weekend for a rugby tourny and I mentioned to the girl who I was carpooling with that I really wanted to go. Thankfully she did too as did another girl on the team. So Sunday morning when we finished our last game we went to the zoo. I'll try to post my pics in a new thread soon.
