It's my second spawn in one week. I think I'm just a bit addicted. :p

Here's dad:

And ma:

I'm expecting 100% Opaque whites.. hopefully a lot of them will be Halfmoons like dad. I'm thinking about breeding one of these babies to one of my steel blues, then breeding one of those babies back to an Opaque to strengthen the white coloring... but that's a heckuvalot of babies. :p

I counted about 60 eggs. I'll probably have some babies available for adoption from my two spawns in a few months. :D

Anywho, I got some better photos this time of the couple spawning.. and an awesome video too.

Wow they are beautiful! I'd totally take one except it would have to go in my room and I like total darkness and silence in my room at night. ;) :p

You'd still have total darkness and silence with a Betta! :)

The babies hatched :D I counted less than 20 but I could be way off since their tiny white bodies blend in with the bubbles. They are so darn cute!! :D

ok....... so after seeing your opaque male i just decided iŽll get a betta.....
the ones i mostly see are blue/red ones (iŽll try to get the one that steals my eyes) iŽm not to acknowdelged in fishy terms, but iŽm sure iŽll get all advice i need form you guys.(from pics i mostly seen males but how can you differ?) sorry if i sound so dumb :p

i already have a tank, my brother has some angels and stuff but he got them in a smaller tank and then passd them to a bigger tank, because they needed air/filter/etc so this tank is available, yay!!! (dont ask me capacity cause i dont know, but its a nice size for one or two fishies (well at least not two male bettas, that i know :p )

YAY! We've brought another one over to the dark side. Soon you'll be overrun by bettas. :p

Males and females are pretty easy to differentiate (unless you're dealing with Male plakats.. which are short finned. Then it gets a bit tricky =P).

These are females:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/alpha_sheltie/October16-Girls0002.jpg

The easiest way to tell is by looking at the length of their fins. Females have shorter fins. If you're really unsure, take a look at it's underside. Females have a white spot like in this pic: http://www.bettatalk.com/images/how_to25.jpg

Males are the ones you see with the long fins (except for Plakats.. but they're not very common in your average fish store), like daddy in the picture above. :)

Yes, I know. I added a little exaggeration in my post, just cause she just hatched another spawn as well. ;)

P.S. -- Ashley, I was kidding at first when I said I was coming to steal your opaque boy, but I'm dead serious now. >.>

hehe. ;D

Hehe.. the cultures I sell are basically live food. You can "culture" them so that you have a never ending supply of food (well, if you take care of the culture :P). I have Microworm cultures, grindal worm cultures and vinegar eel cultures. I feed the MW and VEs to my babies.. and the grindals to my adults. They all love them!

Real or silk plants are good :) I tend to use silk just cause I somehow manage to kill all my plants.

What kind of food does your brother use? The easiest food to feed are pellets. Hikari makes excellent pellets (and bloodworms too!) Frozen bloodworms are another favorite around here. Don't bother with flakes though. Not one of my bettas will eat that stuff.

All I really use is water conditioner and aquarium salt. If your PH is really out of wack, go ahead and use the PH balancer. But if it's pretty close to 7, there's no need. I don't like using extra chemicals when I don't need to.

he has flakes, bloodworms and brine shrimps so iŽll just skip teh flakes and get some pellets or just give them teh bw or bsh?? also how do you know when a betta is not sick, since they seem so sad at pet stores but how to really tell and about age too..........sorry to ask so much, but youŽve got me into it ;)

No worries! I love helping out other betta addicts!

My babies LOVE baby brine shrimp! I've heard adults like brine shrimp too but I've never tried it with mine. You should be okay with BW and BS. My adults get BWs 90% of the time and they're all in tip-top shape! :) I have the pellets here more for convenience sake. When I'm too lazy to thaw on BWs, I just throw in a couple pellets. :p

Pet store bettas are generally 6 months+ when you get them. Go with your instincts. Generally, a happy, healthy betta will flare, not be lethargic, have clear eyes and not have an suspicious looking spots on them (I'm talking about things like white, salt-like looking spots.. not their coloring =P). A bubblenest is usually a good indicator of a happy betta. :)
