This
is Lucy Sophie Cavy-Piggie, Lucy to her friends and family, though
her nicknames are many: Lucy-fur, Lucy-Lou, Her Worshipful Piggieness,
and Furball to name a few.
We adopted her last July 4th weekend from a pet store, and she has
become just the most delightful little companion you could ever wish
for. She wheeks whenever we open the refrigerator or rattle a plastic
bag, and runs around and popcorns whenever it is feeding or treat time.
Her absolute favorite treat is a baby carrot, but she also loves leaf
and romaine lettuce, cilantro, dill, apples, raspberries, kiwi, banana,
blueberries, and strawberry tops. And of course, she also enjoys her
hay and pellets.
She has a playpen in addition to her roomy cage, so she can have "floor
time" every day. She loves running around her "pig pen" and in and out
of her cardboard tubes. She also enjoys playing with her stuffed toys
and sneaking up on her humans unawares and nipping their toes.
She also loves to cuddle with her mommy and watch TV; her favorite movie
is the Dr. Doolittle one with Eddie Murphy and the talking guinea pig.
Lucy does her share of talking as well; she will tell us all about her
guinea pig day when we get home and take her out for a cuddle! She also
purrs when you pet her just right, and she has a "sweet spot" under her
chin that she will invite you to rub by raising her head into the air;
but if you try to touch that spot without an invitation, you will be
nipped. If you try to put her back into her cage before she has had
enough snuggle time, she will cling to you and whimper in protest!
