Kashmir, the Pet of the Day
Name: Kashmir
Age: Ten years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Egyptian Arabian Horse
Home: Park Forest, Illinois, USA

Kashmir, who's given name is Ramanujan, is a dream I never thought would come true. He is a ten-year-old Egyptian Arabian that danced into my life in February of 1997. From the time I first saw him I knew that he was a combination of every horse that has taken my breath away when I was a child. From the Black Stallion to the King of the Wind, Kashmir has it all. He is special not only because his father is Bahim Hisan, (The Bush Black Stallion) but also because of his ever lasting love for human companionship that shines every time he is around people.

I bought Kashmir as my first horse in February of 1997. I found him through an ad in the paper by pure accident. I was 27 at the time and I have dreamed of owning a horse since I was a child. I went to a clinic with two girlfriends of mine who owned their own horses and both convinced me that it was OK to spend such a large amount of money for myself. Upon reading the article in the paper I went to the barn where they had a number of horses for sale. Kashmir was the first one I saw and I absolutely fell in love. He is very small, 14.2 which is one hand shy of being a pony. This comfortable size works well for me as I am a person of small stature and size.

I have Kashmir boarded at a stable approximately 1/2 hour away from me in a town called Peotone, Illinois. I have been riding Kashmir western pleasure and have found that he and I enjoy this style of riding the most. I have a wonderful trainer who has helped me through the not so fun times. I hope to show Kashmir in the smaller shows next year, but for now, I see him at least three times a week and ride him on the weekends. We always spend one day just having fun together.

Kashmir is kind and gentle with a stubborn streak that always keeps me in check. No matter what kind of day I am having, when I walk into the barn and see his head shaking back and forth whinnying for his carrots he always make me smile. My life is now complete because of a little black arabian horse. He will always be my Black Stallion.
